Pay scales follow the Karnataka government pay matrix and vary by post. All posts also include other allowances admissible as per government rules.

Selection happens through a multi-stage process that combines written tests, skill or typing tests, and interviews depending on the post applied for. The qualifying criteria and shortlisting ratios differ slightly by post. Written/Qualifying Test: Conducted for most posts based on the prescribed syllabus. Skill Test: For Typist, Typist-Copyist, and Stenographer posts, a typing/shorthand skill test on computer is conducted. For example, a 15-minute dictation for Typist-Copyist, and shorthand dictation of 80 words per minute transcribed in 45 minutes for Stenographer Grade-III. Interview: Candidates shortlisted from the qualifying exam are called for interview in a ratio of 1:5 (one vacancy to five candidates) for most posts, 1:10 for Peon, and 1:25 for Process Server (final list based on 1:5 shortlisting). Document Verification: Original certificates are verified at the time of the skill test/interview. Final Merit List: Prepared based on combined marks from the qualifying test, skill test, and interview, subject to securing minimum qualifying marks.

Selected candidates will be on probation for two years as per the Karnataka Civil Services (Probation) Rules, 1977, extendable if required. During this period, candidates must pass departmental examinations in their subject as well as the Kannada language examination, and where applicable, the Compulsory Kannada Typewriting Test as per rules.

Applicants claiming reservation under category, rural, ex-serviceman, widow, or PwD quotas must produce valid certificates issued by competent authorities. General category candidates claiming rural reservation must submit an affidavit in Annexure-1 along with the certificate in Annexure-2. All such certificates must be obtained on or before the last date of application (28 July 2026), or any later date specified by competent authorities. Government/PSU employees applying must mention this in the application and produce a No Objection Certificate from their department if selected.

Many applicants face rejection or delays due to avoidable errors during the application process. Being aware of these common pitfalls in advance can help candidates submit a clean, error-free application. Incomplete or incorrect mobile/email details: Since all communication regarding shortlisting is sent only via SMS and email, an incorrect entry means missing important updates entirely. Wrong photo/signature specifications: Uploading images that don't match the exact size (5cm x 3.6cm for photo, 2.5cm x 7.5cm for signature) and file size limits (50kb/25kb) can lead to application errors. Applying for multiple categories in one form: Candidates must apply separately if eligible under different reservation categories, but should clearly mention only the category they are claiming in the relevant application. Paying fee without final review: Since fees are non-refundable and applications cannot be corrected after submission, candidates should double-check all entered details before making payment. Missing certificate cut-off dates: Reservation, rural quota, or PwD certificates obtained after the last date of application may not be considered valid for that quota. Submitting applications offline: Only online applications through the official portal are accepted; applications sent by post, email, or any other mode will be rejected.
