10 minutes; minimum speed 40 w.p.m.; permissible mistakes 3% of total words typed (characters-with-space method)
Stage II – English Shorthand Test
110 w.p.m.; 550-word passage dictated in 5 minutes; 45 minutes for transcription; 120 marks; permissible mistakes 5% (27.5 mistakes); 4 marks deducted per full mistake, 2 marks per half mistake; more than 27.5 mistakes disqualifies; best of two attempts considered
Stage III – Main (Descriptive) Examination
100 marks; 120 minutes; Essay (250 words, 40 marks), Letter Writing (15 marks), Grammar & Comprehension (25 marks), Translation Hindi-English & English-Hindi (10+10 marks); passing marks 50% for General, 45% for Reserved/PwBD categories
Stage IV – Interview
15 marks; no minimum qualifying marks

Stage IV – Interview
15 marks; no minimum qualifying marks
