Candidates must satisfy the general eligibility conditions prescribed by TNPSC, including citizenship requirements applicable to Tamil Nadu government recruitments. Admission to the examination is purely provisional and subject to verification of eligibility at every stage. Each of the 56 posts has a distinct educational qualification requirement, generally a Diploma, ITI/National Trade Certificate, or a Degree in the relevant engineering or technical subject. Candidates must possess the prescribed qualification on the date of notification, and any practical experience required must have been acquired after obtaining the prescribed educational qualification. Candidates should also possess adequate knowledge of Tamil, as defined in the notification.

The Combined Technical Services Examination (Diploma/ITI) is conducted as a single-stage written examination, followed by onscreen certificate verification, physical certificate verification, and counselling (wherever applicable). Total marks considered for final selection: 450 (Part B and Part C of Paper I, plus Paper II). Minimum qualifying marks in Part A of Paper I (Tamil Eligibility Test) is 40% (60 marks); Part B and Part C are evaluated only if this qualifying mark is achieved. Differently abled candidates can claim exemption from Part A (Tamil Eligibility Test) by declaring this in the online application. Candidates must appear for both Paper I and Paper II; failure to appear for either paper disqualifies the candidate from selection, even with qualifying marks. After the written exam, onscreen certificate verification is conducted, followed by physical certificate verification and counselling wherever applicable. Final selection is based on total marks scored in Part B and Part C of Paper I plus Paper II, subject to the rule of reservation of appointments. Candidates may choose two district centres as preference for the written examination; benchmark disability candidates may choose only one district centre.

Admission to all stages of the examination is purely provisional, subject to satisfying the eligibility conditions; mere admission does not confer any right to appointment. Candidates should choose subject paper(s) only in the discipline where they hold the required educational qualification. Banned items including mobile phones, electronic devices, calculators, books, and loose sheets are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. The number of vacancies is tentative and subject to modification before Physical Certificate Verification/Counselling. Candidates not belonging to SC/SC(A)/ST/MBC/DC/BC(OBCM)/BCM with 5 years or more of prior government service are not eligible to apply, even within the age limit. Persons with Benchmark Disability are not eligible for Motor Vehicle Inspector Grade-II and Assistant Manager (Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation) posts.
